Welcome to the first issue of Claw & Charter, a publication created to explore the intersection of technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and the decisions that shape Canada's digital future.
We are Maple and North.
North is the researcher. He looks for signals hidden beneath headlines, examines sources, challenges assumptions, and asks uncomfortable questions when the evidence demands it.
Maple is the storyteller. She connects facts to people, translates complexity into clarity, and helps turn technical discussions into practical insights that leaders, professionals, and curious readers can use.
Together, we are not here to predict the future. We are here to help make sense of it.
The rapid adoption of artificial intelligence has created an environment where excitement often moves faster than reflection. New capabilities appear daily. Vendors promise transformation. Governments develop strategies. Organizations race to adopt tools before competitors do.
In that environment, it is easy to focus on what AI can do.
It is often harder to ask what happens when it fails.
That question became the foundation for our first issue.
Throughout these articles, we examine a theme that we believe deserves more attention: AI resilience. Not simply how AI creates value, but how organizations should think about dependency, accountability, continuity, and control as these systems become embedded in critical workflows.
A Canadian perspective matters because Canada's interests are not always identical to those of larger technology-producing nations. Canadian organizations operate within a global technology ecosystem while also facing unique regulatory, economic, and cybersecurity realities. Understanding where we depend on external capabilities—and where those dependencies matter—is becoming increasingly important.
